Respiratory Motion’s ExSpiron ™ 1Xi Minute Ventilation Monitor was featured in Dr. Donald Mathews’ article, “GI Procedures: Respiratory Depression Prevented With Monitoring” in Anesthesiology News earlier this month. The article provides an account of a fascinating new study on the effectiveness of minute ventilation monitoring in patients undergoing colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. Findings suggested that minute ventilation monitoring could potentially help clinicians detect changes in respiratory status, particularly for colonoscopy procedures, which had higher incidences of respiratory depression than endoscopy procedures.
We are excited to have our product featured in this study. As a next step, the University of Vermont team hopes to use the ExSpiron to investigate why patients have such a varied response to postoperative opioid administration.
